Hi All. Cry for help here! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I've got a 405 Exec Auto Estate from 1997. It has developed a fault with the alarm/immobiliser. At first it was just the headlamps started flashing when I locked it or one indicator came on when I started it but today I had my first non-start. The key pad seemed to work as it was showing red and when I put my code in it went green but the car would not start. I then took the key out and the green light stayed on - tried several times but no luck so off to work by train! Got home later and it started first time - key pad working as per normal but five mins later - back to green light but no go. I am pretty sure it has everything to do with the immobiliser but local garage reckoned it would cost about the same as the national debt to disconnect it - if they could? Any suggestions - it is a great old car and a shame to send it off to become a washing machine
